Orbital Polishing

Orbital polishing is part of the abrasive flow machining process. This process is ideal for the precise deburring and polishing of complex components and has already proven itself in the serial production of PET blow moulds.
 
The increasing complexity of blow mould geometries in combination with fine details that must be preserved often means that manual polishing is not feasible due to the long processing time. One possible mechanical solution in this case is orbital polishing, where a polishing agent is put into a negative mould, the actual blow mould, and pushed out through the positive mould. The pressure from the moulding die and the simultaneous orbital motion of the dyconn machine slowly pushes the polishing agent out of the mould.
 
The polishing agent thus “flows” through the resulting gap and exerts a targeted abrasive effect. The result is a particularly fine and smooth surface structure. The deburred and polished component is perfectly rounded, and fine details can largely be preserved by increasing the gap width in the moulding die. With orbital polishing on a dyconn machine, surfaces can be improved by more than 80%.
